Steps to renew/ re-certify your WI CDL

Plan ahead!

Know when your CDL expires. You will need time to study and test, so start a couple months ahead of time. You will be tested on:

     1. Pre-Trip Inspection: You should do your test on a bus with hydraulic brakes, even if you are permitted to drive air brakes. See handout for pre-trip

     2. RailRoad Crossing: You should study/ memorize the handout. You should verbalize every step as you do it.

     3. 4 Student Drop-Off: You should study/ memorize the handout. You should verbalize every step as you do it.

     4. Emergency Stop: You should study/ memorize the handout. You should verbalize every step as you do it.

 

NOTE:

Applicant up to 70

Fed Med every 2 years (or every year if necessary)

Skills test at renewal (8 years).

70 years or older

Fed Med every 1 year

Skills test every 2 years.
